Pitch and Yaw Gear Teeth

CEPLATTYN: One grease, multiple solutions

Pitch and yaw bearings in wind turbines rotate by use of motors turning the bearing via gear teeth. The teeth are subject to extremely high loads, vibrations and in the case of the active pitching systems many small frequent adjustments.  This combination of tough conditions and a typical relubrication cycle of 6 months creates an extreme tribological challenge.

How to apply grease and make it last

One of the key concerns with lubricating the gear teeth is how to distribute the lubricant to the gear teeth and make it last. FUCHS provides a solution for various application methods to address this challenge. Our solutions provide excellent protection, but also offers specific advantages.

By Hand:

By Auto:

By Spray:

When grease is applied by hand, the product can be worked into the root and flanks of the gear face.

By applying a heavy, solids loaded grease like CEPLATTYN BL, superior protection is established for manually applied applications.

An auto lubricator is the recommended application solution throughout the industry to dispense a heavy, solids loaded product onto gear teeth across temperatures ranging from -30 ° F to 120 ° F.

By developing CEPLATTYN BL WHITE, FUCHS offers an easy-to-disperse grease for auto lubricators for all temperature ranges within the application. Its unique blend of reactive solids provides outstanding wear protection.

Grease application is two-fold. Given the geometry of the gear teeth, grease can be difficult and time consuming to apply correctly.

In a high-pressure application, grease is squeezed from the mating surface area introducing the lack of lubrication and a mess.  The solution is to use  CEPLATTYN 300 Spray which is an aerosol dry film

CEPLATTYN 300 SPRAY

CEPLATTYN 300 Spray is an aerosol that can be easily sprayed onto the mating surfaces. It is a dry film; therefore it will remain between the gear teeth and will not be squeezed out of the gear teeth interface due to the high load of the gear teeth. Thus, a lubricating layer is formed and will extend longer use life.
