Towards active communities | Jiading District edition of the 2018 Shanghai Youth Community Games kicks off
The Jiading edition of the 2018 Shanghai Youth Community Games—organized by the Shanghai Administration of Sports, and jointly organized by the Jiading Sports Bureau, the Jiading Education Bureau, and the Shanghai Rugby Football Club—kicked off with a bang on May 6, 2018. The event also received organizational assistance from the Nanxiang Town Cultural and Sports Activity Center, the Nanxiang School District and Nanxiang Primary School, as well as support from FUCHS Lubricants (China) Ltd.
Representatives from the Jiading Sports Bureau, the Jiading Education Bureau, the Rugby Football Club and the Nanxiang School District, etc., were in attendance at the event opening ceremony, where Madam Zhu Fang, Deputy Head of the Jiading Education Bureau, announced the official start of the games. Addresses were also made by Wu Baoying, Person-in-Charge for Elementary Schools in the Nanxiang School District and Principal of Nanxiang Primary School, and by Madam Du Huihua, Administration Director of FUCHS China.
Said Madam Du: "FUCHS China is a company that has its origins in Germany and which has grown in China. It was the first foreign lubricants company to set up shop in China following the implementation of the reform and 'opening-up' policy in China. In its thirty years in China and twenty in the Nanxiang area, FUCHS China has been able to achieve success thanks to the spectacular rise of the Chinese economy and the support of the government. Our success has also been made possible by our strategy of sustainable development and our commitment to aligning our economic needs with environmental imperatives and our social responsibility. Not only are we concerned with economic development, we have also committed in the long term to our social responsibility. We are focused on the future and helping the next generation, and on supporting the community and giving back to society. Six years ago, FUCHS China joined hands with the Nanxiang Primary School on the "Sports for All" program where children could visit the Rugby Football Club once a week for their workouts, experience the extraordinary magic of sports, and cultivate their capacity for teamwork. More importantly, the program has also helped participants to become more confident, braver, and stronger. We promise to continue providing support for the Sports for All program like we have in the past."
About a hundred households from 22 neighborhoods in Jiading District participated in the contest, which consisted of five major segments: a bungee race, a 30-meter obstacle course race, a race where participants had to run barefoot across stone-paved lanes to retrieve balls, Walk the Plank with inflatable dinghies, and a real-life version of the "Angry Birds" game.
