Corrosion protection with VCI products
Easy packaging - optimally protected
VCI corrosion protection is the efficient and clean way to protect metals against corrosion. This technology is primarily used where components are shipped or stored corrosion-free, dry, clean and ready for further processing.
VCI products can be used as the sole packaging agent or in combination with a film-forming corrosion protection (e.g. corrosion protection oil). The handling of VCI products is very simple compared to film-forming corrosion protection, as no additional equipment is required.
How do VCI products work?
VCI is short for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor. VCI materials create an atmosphere with a highly effective corrosion protection.
The active substances migrate through the air inside the packaging to the metal surface and form a homogeneous ultra thin lyer. This creates a barrier between the metal and corrosive substances.
VCI is not only effective in direct contact with metal, but also at a distance. The VCI molecules also reach places that are difficult to access and even penetrate into cavities, threads or drill holes. Even if packaging is opened briefly in the meantime, the protective atmosphere quickly builds up again after sealing. So opening the packages for short inspection or to take out parts is possible.
Application of VCI products
To gain the full effect of VCI corrosion protection and to make the VCI atmosphere,it is only necessary to follow a few simple rules:
- Metal parts should be dry and clean – and free of fingerprints.
- Before packaging, the metal should be acclimatised to ambient temperature.
- The distance between the metal and the VCI packaging material should not exceed 30 cm for steel and 15 cm for non-ferrous metals.
- Seal the packaging well and, if opened during shipping and storing, close the packaging short after, so that as little active ingredients are losed to the surroundings.
When the metal parts are unpacked, the VCI molecules volatilise within a short time.
Products from the ANTICORIT VCI range
VCI papers
Pure corrosion protection as an intermediate layer, combination packaging, box or carton wrap and for direct wrapping of products
The VCI molecules evaporate on both sides, which is why the paper is paper is particularly suitable as an intermediate layer. Even under extreme climatic conditions excellent corrosion protection is provided. This is how you pack steel, aluminum or non-ferrous metals securely.
Polyethylene-coated papers are the right choice when products need to be protected not only against rust, but also against external influences such as water. An elastic crepe variant is ideal for heavy components.
The paper thickness can be chosen depending on the mechanical stress. We provide papers with a grammage between 50 and 160 g / m².
Benefits of ANTICORIT VCI paper:
- Corrosion protection on both sides
- Fast protection after packaging process
- Available in different dimensions and designs
- High compatibility with other plastics and paints
VCI films
Long-term protection for steel, copper and other metals against mechanical damage and corrosion effects caused by water, dirt and salt
ANTICORIT VCI films are available in various thicknesses and designs: from rolls to cut-to-size pieces and tubes as well as hoods, bags and inserts with customer specific sizes and prints. In addition to the standard version, we can also supply UV-resistant, anti-static, highly tear-resistant, shrinkable variants as well as stretch and air bubble VCI films if required.
ANTICORIT VCI films are stretchable and can be easily sealed. This makes them ideal for both manual and automated packaging processes. Of course, VCI films can also be used like standard PE films to manually wrap conventional standard devices.
Benefits of ANTICORIT VCI films:
- Corrosion protection on both sides
- Excellent suitability for automated packaging
- Transparent film = packaging contents can easily be visually inspected
- No fiber abrasion
- Protection against moisture
- High compatibility with other plastics and paints
In addition to papers and films, we offer a wide range of other VCI products that also guarantee ideal corrosion protection in special applications.
VCI duplex cardboard
Special cardboard for safe and clean corrosion protection made from recyclable and renewable raw materials. Thanks to its high stability, ANTICORIT VCI DUPLEX is ideal for use as an interlayer, die-cut or partition.
VCI foam
The high-dose ANTICORIT VCI FOAM allows critical components to be effectively protected with minimal use of VCI foam. Available in different cut sizes (special sizes on request).
VCI twin-wall sheets
Despite their low weight, these twin-wall sheets are extremely stable and resistant to tearing, impact, abrasion and breakage. This makes them a robust packaging material and highly effective corrosion protection in one.
VCI molded fiber part
Sustainable alternative to conventional thermoformed parts and plastic blisters. Fast build-up of the VCI atmosphere thanks to the 3D concept on both sides. ANTICORIT VCI FIBER can be integrated into automated processes.
VCI oils
No coating of the metal surface required, simply add to the packaging. ANTICORIT VCI oils protect both steel and non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass, bronze, etc.
VCI emitter
Ideal packaging solution for sensitive components that require contactless protection against corrosion. Our VCI emitters are self-adhesive and help to regulate the humidity in packaging and reduce condensation on electronic components thanks to their desiccant properties.
VCI honeycomb
Environmentally friendly and sustainable VCI solution for contact-free packaging processes. Ideal for use in packaging, thermoforming containers and blisters. Thanks to its special structure, the VCI honeycomb is 100% recyclable. Excellent corrosion protection for iron, steel, aluminum, copper, silver, gold and other non-ferrous materials.
VCI gel
ANTICORIT VCI GEL is a pasty, gel-like VCI corrosion protection medium that has been specially developed for contactless application in packaging, blisters and thermoforming containers. It is an optimal solution for fully automated packaging processes. Even small dosing quantities have a high corrosion protection performance.
Storage and disposal of VCI products
VCI products can be stored in their original packaging in a cool, dry place for several years. As the materials release small amounts of active ingredient when exposed to air, they should always be kept in airtight packaging.
ANTICORIT VCI materials are recyclable: paper can be disposed of with waste paper, ANTICORIT VCI films and twin-wall sheets can be recycled. ANTICORIT VCI is nitrite-free and contains no other toxic substances.
Advantages of ANTICORIT VCI technology
- Effective protection against corrosion – even without direct contact of metal surface and ANTICORIT VCI product
- Corrosion protection for up to several years
- Packaging material and corrosion protection in one
- We optimize our ANTICORIT VCI products to help you reduce plastic packaging material and to find recycable materials
- Easy to dispose
- Complies with TRGS 615
- No restrictions according to TRGS 900
- Harmless to health
CONCLUSION: VCI is the worthwhile alternative or supplement to the classic corrosion protection!
