Minimum friction seal assembly with maximum material compatibility in industrial luminaire fixtures

Challenge
A company that manufactures luminaires was having difficulties in the assembly process with one particular model. The difficulty was that it had a very high friction between the polyamide body and a silicone rubber seal, which made the assembly process very difficult.
Solution
At FUCHS, we assessed the situation and found that CARBAFLO XTR 5F was the best solution for the client company.
CARBAFLO XTR 5F is a fluoropolymer coating that does not harden and does not give off any odour. After evaporation of the carrier fluid, it adheres to the different surfaces forming a transparent lubricating layer which greatly reduces the coefficient of friction and can be detected by exposure to ultraviolet light.
On the other hand, and due to its composition, it is a RoHS-free product, an essential requirement for any component in electrical or electronic equipment, being also a lubricant compatible with all the materials present in the luminaire, not only with those in direct contact.
In addition, due to the assembly process, the selected product had to be applied manually, so it was recommended to use the dabomatic applicator (fig 1). This format is ideal both because of its practicality and because it allows the correct amount of lubricant to be dispensed, which is beneficial for the application as well as the use of the product.

CARBAFLO XTR 5F completely solved the customer's installation challenge while meeting all the requirements of the application.
