Future of Dexos™ at OPEL
GM has introduced the Dexos™ specifications in 2010 to ensure optimized engine oil quality and improved engine performance. Dexos™1 Gen 1 exceeded the API SN and ILSAC GF-5 industry standards requirements, providing better protection for gasoline engines. After the introduction of Dexos™1 Gen 2 in 2015, Gen 1 expired in 2017. Gen 2 offers improved performance and protection against LSPI compared to Gen 1.
From September onwards there will be the next generation: Dexos™1 Gen 3, which further increases the demands on the engine oil and is based on the latest API SP and ILSAC GF-6A standards.
After September 1st, 2022, all new products certified to the Dexos™1 standard must meet the Gen 3 specification. However, there will be a transition period of 12 month to sell-down the remaining Dexos™1 Gen 2 products.
We at FUCHS are of course upgrading our TITAN SUPERSYN D1 range to Dexos™ 1 Gen 3 to meet the latest demands and offer you latest technology.
OPEL OV 040 1547
With the expiry of the Dexos™1 Gen 2 specification Opel / Vauxhall will withdraw the engine oil specifications developed by GM for their legacy vehicles. The corresponding OPEL OV 040 1547 specification can be used instead. In addition, the current Opel / Vauxhall specifications will also be renamed and get an additional suffix.

The OPEL OV 040 1547 specification is now followed by one letter and a 2-digit number. The letter stands for:
G Gasoline engines
D Diesel engines
A All (Gasoline & Diesel engines)
The 2-digit number stands for the viscosity grade:
20 SAE xW-20
30 SAE xW-30
The new naming of the specification will become effective as of September 1st, 2022. The respective documentation will be updated in ServiceBox accordingly.
Conclusion: Starting from September 1st, 2022, there is no need anymore to use a Dexos™ engine oil for OPEL / Vauxhall engines anymore. Instead, you can use the corresponding OPEL OV specification as a substitute for Dexos™ 1, Dexos™ 1 Gen 2 as well as Dexos™ 2 also for legacy vehicles.
