SCANIA Specifications
Axle and gearbox applications in Scania commercial vehicles have in the past all been able to be operated with an oil that meets the Scania STO 1:0 specification.
In 2017, as the requirements of different applications and systems became more and more specific, Scania has moved away from this and made a distinction between axle/differential applications and pure manual or automated gearbox applications.
Axle and differential applications
Scania STO 1:0, Scania STO 2:0 A FS and Scania STO 2:0 A have been designed for axle and differential applications, this can be recognized by the acronym "A" as for instance "Axle".
Gearbox applications
Scania STO 1:1 G and Scania STO 2:0 G both serve the respective gearbox applications, corresponding to the acronym "G", e.g. for "gearbox". For Scania commercial vehicles built before 2017, an oil according to Scania STO 1:0 can still be used in gearbox applications.
Engine applications
When talking about engine oils specifications, Scania mainly have the following Specifications:
Scania LDF-4: Special engine oil according to field test LDF-4. Intended for use in Scania engines with DPF, for example Euro 6 engines. According to Scania, the use of LDF-4 oils reduces fuel consumption by 0,5% compared with LDF-3 oils. Not applicable for Scania V8 engines.
Scania LDF-3: Heavy duty diesel long-drain engine oil for Euro 6 engines with EGR, SCR and DPF. Vehicles with extended service intervals. Exceeds ACEA E7 requirements.
Scania LA: Scania engine oils specification specially for Euro 5 and EEV vehicles.
Scania LDF-2: Heavy duty diesel engine oil for Euro 4 -> vehicles with extended service intervals. Exceeds ACEA E7 requirements.
Scania LDF: Engine oil that passed the Scania Long Drain Field test. They are approved for longer service intervals.
