What does ISO 21469 entail?
- It is a safety standard launched in 2006 for manufacturers of food-grade lubricants (FGLs).
- A full risk assessment is carried out on the lubricant manufacturer’s production plant.
- The plan has been audited by an independent third party to ensure that all certification procedures and requirements have been met.
- New sampling, testing and auditing are performed every year to verify that the FGLs continue to use only FDA-approved ingredients for the originally submitted formulation.
- ISO 21469 looks at both the lubricant and its overall production. It certifies the lubricant and its formulation, along with the production process, handling, packing and warehousing. The aim of this holistic approach is to ensure that the lubricant is not only manufactured in line with the standard, but also that it is delivered intact and free of contamination.
