FUCHS Silkolene Backs Inspirational Amputee

12.04.2018 - 10:08

After sustaining horrific injuries in 2014, including the loss of his left arm, Chris Ganley would’ve been forgiven for giving up on his racing dreams.

But the accident has only served to increase Chris’ drive to succeed and the Army veteran from Clevedon has returned to the grid – with a little help from FUCHS Silkolene.

The world-renowned manufacturer of two-wheel oils is supporting Chris by supplying all the products to keep his bike in top condition for the full season.

Chris, who served two tours of Afghanistan, took a step towards his ultimate dream of competing in the Isle of Man TT by 2023 by racing in the Thundersport GB Golden Era Superbikes & GP1 Classic/Cup at Donington recently.

Unfortunately, mechanical problems meant Chris was forced to retire from the race with just two laps to go – but he was nevertheless delighted to be racing again.

“The bike handled really well and I improved my lap time from 1.30.8 to 1.25.2,” said Chris.

“Due to my performance I gained all the signatures needed to upgrade my license.

“It was disappointing to retire, but it was still a really good day and I’d like to thank everyone for the support that I have received to make all this possible.

“My dream is coming together and I couldn’t do it without my sponsors, family and friends.”

Sally Travis, marketing manager at FUCHS Silkolene, said: “We were amazed when we heard Chris’ story. It takes a special kind of person to get back into racing after the injuries he sustained.

“We are right behind him in his quest to race in the Isle of Man TT and hope that our premium lubricants – used by some of the top teams both globally and in British Superbikes – help him on his way.”

Chris has also been helped by Bridgwater and Taunton College, whose students are servicing and maintaining his Yamaha R1 to accommodate a one arm amputee.
