Belgium Opens the FUCHS LUBRICANTS RACRMC Historic Asphalt Championship
The 2018 FUCHS LUBRICANTS RACRMC Historic Asphalt Rally Championship opens on Saturday (21 April), Rallye Salamandre in Belgium.
In an event with a superb capacity entry, around ten championship contenders will tackle this hugely popular event on closed public roads around the town of Beaumont in the south of Belgium. In the typical style of Belgian rallies, the crews will tackle each stage several times and two of the four stages feature a lapped format.
The FUCHS LUBRICANTS RACRMC Historic Asphalt Rally Championship is organised by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club and is a dedicated asphalt championship for all categories of historic stage rally cars.
Heading the Skipton Ford Category 2 is the Escort Mk1 of Lyndon Barton / Simon Hunter but the arrival of Jimmy McRae and Pauline Gullick in the Vauxhall Magnum will give a great spectacle for the spectators.
Local crew, and prime movers in getting the championship to the event, will be husband and wife Christophe Jacob and Isabelle Regnier in their rapid Escort Mk2. Welcome additions to the championship field in the Rally & Competition Equipment Category 3 are more Escort Mk2s for Chris White/Chris Dewsnap and Seb Perez/Gary McElhinney. More quick Escort Mk2s are entered for brothers Simon and Alister Crook and Steve Hopewell/Mike Smith plus championship newcomers Simon Tysoe and Craig Dalmon.
FIA Category will be lead with the Lancia Stratos of Steve Perez and Andy Bull. With Tim Freeman leading his Category 4B Ford Sierra will give the Championship a true cross mixture of cars on the first round in Belgium.
