Testing opener for Dennis Racing at Silverstone
The first race of Dennis' 2018 season took place at Silverstone, with a few new things being tried and tested.
On this race Dennis was a solo driver and the weather being so warm did not help his long stint in the car. The team were testing a brand new tyre. Unfortunately the tyres were not up to what they have to go through but Dennis had no choice but to use them and only just managing to make it to the end. There was an also an issue with the brakes. Qualifying was not as hoped, with 52 cars on the grid the track was busy but with major brake vibrations hampering the stopping distances. Dennis qualified 37th overall and 5th in class.
With a new set of brakes fitted but having to stick with the tyres for the race Dennis headed to the grid. With the race changing from a standing start to a rolling start. He got stuck in and enjoyed some excellent battles which is what it is all about. With a slick pit stop by the team, he was back on the pace but it was a hard race.
"If your tyres aren’t right then you really have to battle the car."
He did the best he could do and with a few accidents happening and a code 60 being used to recover a stranded car. He kept pushing as the race restarted putting us 3rd in class (21st overall) by the chequered flag.
Dennis will be returning to a trusted brand of tyres and making any necessary tweaks, Happy the car came home in one piece and no major damage to repair.
The next race will be at Oulton Park on the 2nd of June a firm favourite with the team.
