A winning weekend for Sharp Motorsport in the Civic Cup
Damp, wet conditions proved tricky in Saturdays qualifying session. The team gambled slightly on a wet setup on Arron’s car, which proved to be working well in the early stages of the session battling for pole position. With the track drying every lap the team lost time in the last two laps where the cars on dry setups were more suited posting faster lap times which resulted dropping to 14th position on a grid of 30 cars.
Race one's target was a top ten finish to capitalize on the reverse top 10 grid for race two. With this in mind a good start was made keeping out of trouble on the first lap to be placed within the top 10 starting the second lap. The following laps saw Arron progress up to 6th position but a mistake with two laps to go dropped him down the field to finish in 9th place. This result meant he would be on the front row to start race two.
During down time between races the weather varied dramatically and 15 minutes before the race there was a huge downpour resulting in a very wet track and everyone’s setup had to be changed last minute. Race two starting on the front row with a wet setup Arron got a great start and took the lead out of the first corner. Over the next few laps on a clear track a 5 second gap to second place was achieved which helped in the later stages as the track was rapidly drying. The initial gap Arron had pulled out was too great for the chasing pack to reduce and a first circuit win on the teams home track was achieved. This was a great result in Arron’s 3rd meeting in the new car and championship.
The Team would like to thank friends, family and supporters who came for a day out it was great to see the huge support at our home race weekend. the two races are to be televised on motorsport TV in the coming weeks.
