Dennis Racing battled the heat for 2nd in class
Saturday saw Dennis Racing head to Brands hatch, with track temperatures over 40C!
In the heat the team struggled to put a good lap in during qualifying as it proved too hot for the tyres to give good grip, putting them 3rd in class (20th overall).
With a few tweaks made to the car and harder compound tyres fitted they headed to the grid. With a rolling start for this round Dennis made a good start gaining a few places quickly but trying to manage tyre temperatures and overall pace at the same time.
Pushing as hard as they dared Dennis was holding his own until the pit stop call was given by the team. Blink and you would have missed it with such a quick stop by an amazing pit crew. So quick at just 47 seconds from pit entry to pit exit and the 2nd fastest stop of the race!
Dennis was back out and started pushing to make the most of the gains in the stop and a code 60 but this was overheating our tyres making the car a handful to say the least.
With the car and driver melting in the heat the team was happy and disappointed to see the chequered flag for what was a difficult but exciting race.
The final result - 2nd in class and 11th overall.
As Dennis entered parc ferme he was called to race control, fearing their results were at risk, everyone was happy to find out that under code 60 (a virtual safety car where all cars must remain at 60 kph) Dennis was clocked at 60.1kph and was let off with a polite warning!
Happy with the results in such challenging conditions, the team looks forward to it's next outing.
