Irwin Brothers Aiming To Round Off Season In Style
For the final time this season, the Be Wiser Ducati pairing of Glenn and Andrew Irwin head to Brands Hatch for round 12 of the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship with both Carrickfergus brothers aiming to end the season in style.
For 28-year-old Glenn, the priority is to claim a victory which he’s come so close to doing on a number of occasions this year on Paul Bird’s factory-backed Be Wiser Ducati Panigale R and with the Showdown finale hosting three races at the Kent circuit, he’s hopeful he can achieve his goal.
Doing that would give him the best chance of securing third place in the standings, whereby he currently occupies fourth place just three points down on Josh Brookes, who did the double when the series visited the Brands Hatch GP track back in July. Added to his double Superbike win at the North West 200, that would constitute a reasonable season for Glenn, who will leave the Penrith-based PBM team at the weekend after a three-year tenure.
As for 24-year-old sibling Andrew, he’ll be looking to carry on his superb form over the past two rounds which saw him achieve his best BSB result of his short career when he took his Be Wiser Ducati Panigale R to fourth place in the mixed conditions at Oulton Park and followed that up with a sixth place at Assen two weeks ago.
The meeting will see Andrew in a unique situation as it will be the only track he’s raced the Be Wiser Ducati Panigale R at, and which saw him post two solid points-scoring rides on only his third ride on a Superbike earlier this year. Andrew too will be moving on from the PBM team at the end of the season so hopes for a good showing this weekend.
