Rick Ford takes opening weekend win.
FUCHS Lubricants Classic Mini Challenge
The brand new FUCHS Lubricants Classic Mini Challenge began with the Jack Neal Memorial rally at Blyton Park on Saturday.
A total of seven classic Minis out of the 17 who are currently registered took the start line for eight stages at the tarmac venue.
On a blustery day, the winning driver of the Challenge was Rick Ford, with Steve Robinson second and Barry Stenhouse in third place.
The next event will be the Tour of Epynt in Mid Wales on March 10.
Busy times for CA1 Sport
FUCHS-backed, Carlisle-based CA1 Sport had a mixed weekend, with Tom Preston finishing well in his Skoda Fabia R5 on the Riponian rally, whilst fellow CA1 driver David Bogie’s pre-season shake down on the Snowman rally fell foul of the Scottish weather.
Saturday February 9 was the day which was scheduled for the opening round of the 2019 Scottish season. However, heavy snow in the Inverness area, plus heavy frost on the Thursday evening led the organisers to cancel the event on safety grounds. Rescue units and event officials were not able to gain safe access the forest stages.
Tom Preston (Skoda Fabia R5) and co-driver Andrew Roughead had better results on Sunday February 10 in the forests of North Yorkshire with a fine fourth overall on the Riponian rally.
The next event for the CA1 team is the Cambrian rally in north Wales.
Cambrian rally this weekend
This event is the first round of three championships in which FUCHS Lubricants are involved throughout the 2019 rally season – the British Rally Championship, the BTRDA championship, and the FUCHS Lubricants BTRDA 1400 Rally Championship.
FUCHS Lubricants is the 2019 season sponsor of the BTRDA 1400 Championship, a very popular class in the overall BTRDA stable of events.
These smaller-engined two-wheel drive cars are to be found at the head of the field, and are thus able to take advantage of the better gravel conditions on the special stages.
Also opening their competitive seasons here are Ian Joel / Graeme Wood (2018 B13 champions) Ford Escort Cosworth, and Patrick Naylor / Ian Lawrence (Mitsubishi Evo 9). Both Joel and Naylor are supported in their respective classes by FUCHS Lubricants.
Both the CA1 Sport drivers David Bogie and Tom Preston are entered in the International category of the event.
