Tricky time for CA1 Sport on West Cork rally

FUCHS-supported rally team owner Martin Wilkinson and his crew had a tricky time looking after David Bogie’s Skoda Fabia R5 on round two of the British Rally Championship last weekend. The weather was less than clement, with heavy showers and almost constant high winds, but nevertheless Bogie and co-driver John Rowan were satisfied in the end (after a couple of spins on the wet shiny tarmac on the later of the 15 special stages) with their 14thoverall on the International rally, which placed them third on the Championship leader board.

The duo’s next event is the Speyside Stages rally in April which is part of the Scottish championship, before returning to the British Championship on the Pirelli International Rally.

Silverstone starter for Bellerbys and Brown on British Rallycross Championship

The opening round of the 2019 British Rallycross Championship begins on Sunday at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire.  Paige Bellerby will again be competing in her Supernational Lotus Exige (powered by a Honda normally-aspirated engine) whilst Drew Bellerby and Steve Brown are both contesting the BMW Mini class.

Competitors keep the same competition number throughout the year, with Paige sporting number 33, Drew running 22, and Steve selecting 123.

It looks as though the weather this year may be better than 2018, when the Beast From The East was freezing everything that didn’t move for 5 minutes!

Superbikes are go

The British Superbikes season is fast approaching and official testing has taken place in Portugal and Spain for our FUCHS Silkolene-backed teams.

First up was Monteblanco where Quattro Plant JG Speedfit Kawasaki new recruit Glenn Irwin finished second on day two ahead of other Silkolene riders Scott Redding and Josh Brookes (both Be Wiser Ducati) in third and seventh respectively.

That was after Redding topped the charts on day one, with Irwin and Brookes in eighth and 10th.

Gloucestershire-born Grand Prix winner Redding was first overall in the combined results.

Redding had to settle for second overall in the Portimao test, while Brookes was fifth and Irwin was eighth.

Johnny Mowatt, team co-ordinator at Be Wiser Ducati, said: “Testing has gone really well with all of our riders finding their feet with the new Be Wiser Ducati V4R.

“We’ve explored a wide range of settings at both tracks and the result has been really positive.”

Irwin said: “It was enjoyable to just go out with the intention of pushing the bike really hard."

The next official test is at Silverstone on April 9 before the season-opener on the same track on April 19-21.
