A winning start for Paige at Lydden Hill & Drew claims 2nd.
Drew Bellerby starts title defence at Lydden Hill bank holiday rallycross meeting.
Drew began her defence of her 2019 BMW Mini national rallycross championship in spirited fashion at the two day meeting at Lydden Hill on the Bank Holiday weekend. Her car had had a complete overhaul during the layoff – the only change from her 2019 setup was a change of tyre supplier to the Series sponsor, Cooper Tires.
After first practice, and the initial heat on Sunday, Drew’s verdict was “ the car is running well, and these tyres suit my style, they’re really grippy on the front end, and help me to turn in accurately”.
After two more heats on the Monday, Drew lined up second on the grid for the final, and kept her position until the last lap when she took her joker. This dropped her to 4th, but she kept pushing for the rest of the lap. Going up Hairy Hill she was close behind the 2nd and 3rd cars who were battling each other. Drew saw her opportunity, and dived through past both of them on the inside, into 2nd place on the last hairpin, and kept the position to the flag.
The next round is at the Knockhill circuit in Scotland on the weekend of September 26th and 27th.
Winning start for Paige at Lydden Hill.
Paige started her 2020 rallycross campaign in the Supernational category with a new engine, gearbox, and differential in her 2.3 litre Lotus Exige . She had an untroubled run through the heats, and took pole position for the 8 car Final. A tremendous start saw her head the field into the first corner, and she dominated the rest of the 5 laps to take a comfortable victory.
