Weekly Motorsport Round-Up #3
It was a cracker of an Easter weekend for Bellerby sisters Paige and Drew, who both clinched podium successes in the second round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship.
The FUCHS TITAN-backed siblings were in blistering form at Lydden Hill circuit in Kent.
Drew has made the move up to the BMW Mini Championship this year and raced well to secure a third grid slot in the final.
But Drew found herself in trouble when the driver in pole stalled on the start line. With a car in front of her, Drew dropped down to fifth and had to put in a stellar drive over the five laps to finish in P3.
There was good news for Paige, too, who kept her place at the top of her championship table with an excellent win in the Super National Final.
Paige drove well in her heats to qualify on the front row of the final grid but her Lotus Exige was beaten off the start line by the much more powerful Renault Clio of her opponent.
She chased and harried the Renault until eventually he spun out, giving Paige a clear run to the flag.
The third round of the British Rallycross Championship is at Pembrey Circuit in South Wales on June 25th.
Elsewhere, FUCHS is proud to support two university teams - Glyndŵr University/ TWP Racing and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
The UWTSD students opened their podium account at Silverstone in round one of the Sports 2000 Championship with a well-earned third place finish by Tim Tudor, a lecturer in Motorsport Engineering.
TWP Racing, meanwhile, have welcomed two new drivers to the team ahead of the 750 Motor Club CARTEK Club Enduro race: Gentleman-racer David Smith and Nick Dougill.
Super Adam Morgan is third in the BTCC standings after another great weekend.
The Ciceley Motorsport ace, sponsored by FUCHS, finished 8th and 11th before coming home in P3 in the final race of the day at Donington Park.
But things got even better for Adam as Gordon Shedden was excluded from the result of Round 6 after his car failed post-race ride height checks. That meant Adam moved up to P2. “The car just got better and better,” said Adam. “I wasn’t expecting to be on for a podium finish but the car was just so good.”
In the British Superbikes, reigning champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne remained upbeat after his race two crash at Brands Hatch.
SILKOLENE sponsored Shakey came home in fourth in the first race, picking up his first points of the season.
But there was disappointment later in the day when he ended up in the gravel in a battle with Leon Haslam.
“That’s just how racing is,” said Shakey. “It’s not too much of a stress at the moment as there is plenty of time to recover podium credits.”
