Gavin Murray claims 2nd place in National Hot Rod
It was a busy weekend for M & M Motorsport with Round 10 of the qualifying series taking place on Good Friday and round 11 at our home track of Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich on Easter Monday.
For both events the weather was fine, producing some good fast racing.
For both heats one and two, Gavin lined up at the back of the field in 24th and made steady progress in both races, finishing 10th in heat on and 9th in heat 2.
The results in the heats meant that Gavin lined up 8th for the 35 lap final, and like the heats made good steady progress eventually crossing the line in 4th place.
Saturday and Sunday saw the team go through the usual checks and adjustments between meetings but in double quick time, ready for the 2pm start of WQR11 on Monday.
Once again, Gavin started the 25 lap heats at the back of the grid in 24th. Heat one was a very tame race with very little action and the condition of the track made it very difficult to pass. Gavin brought the #95 car home in 18th.
The team made a few adjustments on the car in order to overcome the track and they paid off in heat two with Gavin securing an 11th.
Qualifying 16th for the final, Gavin and the team made more adjustments and knew what they had to do. 35 laps was the distance and Gavin kept chipping away and worked his was towards the front of the field. Just like Northampton on Good Friday, Gavin raced his way up to 4th postion. A stewards inquiry immediately after the race elevated Gavin to 3rd. Further video evidence was studied and Gavin was then promoted to 2nd.
A cracking weekend for M & M Motorsport with some good points in the bag. The team now sit 5th in the points championship, however only 12 out of 14 rounds count towards the final points championship with each driver dropping their worst two points scoring rounds of the season. Gavin joined the championship on round 3 so has no points to drop. As a result of this, once the dropped scores have been taken into consideration, Gavin lies 3rd with only 10 points separating the top 3.
The team will carry out the usual checks and adjustments ahead of our next meeting, World Qualifying Round 12 at Hednesford Hills Raceway on May Day Bank Holiday Monday.
