Friday Testing:

The weekend kicked off for the team with a test day on the Friday prior to the race meeting, the test day was at Silverstone circuit on the national layout.

The day consisted of x4 30-minute sessions. This enabled Arron to get some valuable seat time prior to qualifying on Saturday morning, due to Covid restrictions we had been unable to get the desired amount of testing in before the season started.

The team made changes to the car throughout each session and Arron’s pace was good lapping under the previous lap record for the Type R Trophy class.

During the last session of the day Arron picked up a gearbox issue making the car jump out of 4th gear through turn one, due to us having time Friday night we decided to remove, rebuild and refit the gearbox so it was in perfect working condition for Qualifying the following morning.

The team had a late night working on the car but after a great effort the car was up and running ready for qualifying.

Qualifying:

An early start Saturday morning resulted in a dry but very cold Silverstone track. The newly established Type R Trophy had a grid size of 31 cars line up for the first qualifying session of the year.

Arron managed to bank a few laps on cold tyres before putting in his best lap of the session in which sat him 5thposition out of a 31-car grid for race one.

Race 1:

After a hectic Qualifying Arron started Race 1 in 5th position. Arron lost a position through turn one putting him in 6th for a lap or two, soon to recover and make his way back up to 5th. A misjudged lunge from another competitor resulted in Arron being hit off the circuit sideways and lost all the ground he had previously made up dropping him to 7thposition. Arron pushed on for the rest of the race and regained his positions to finish 5th place.

Race 2:

Race 2 grid positions were determined by the results from race one so Arron lined up on the grid in 5th position again.

Arron had a great start and managed to gain a position meaning he moved up to 4th position on the opening lap, Arron pulled a large gap from the car behind but wasn’t close enough to the leading trio to challenge for another position, this meant a steady race for Arron and he finished in 4th position.

Overall Round 1 was great for the team, Arron is currently sat 4th Overall in the championship out of 31 cars and we now look towards Round 2 at Croft circuit on 29th May.

The team would like to thank all sponsors involved for their continued support in these uncertain times.
