Iddon & Brookes Fired Up For Thruxton Thriller
Round four of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship heads for the fastest track on the calendar with defending champions VisionTrack Ducati hoping for more success at Thruxton this weekend.
The Hampshire speed bowl always throws up excellent racing and both championship leader Christian Iddon and reigning champion Josh Brookes are hoping to carry forward the positive momentum from this past weekend’s races at Brands Hatch for Paul Bird’s Penrith-based team.
Iddon, originally from Stockport but now based on Tyneside, scored his second victory of the season on Sunday to maintain his advantage at the head of the standings aboard his factory-backed VisionTrack Ducati Panigale V4 RR whereas Bedfordshire-based Aussie Brookes showed a glimmer of his old form with a battling fifth place after a tough start to his title defence.
The fast-flowing nature of Thruxton will suit both Iddon and Brookes as Iddon goes in search of his first victory there to increase his six-point advantage whilst Brookes certainly knows his way around so will be hoping to add to the nine wins he has scored at Thruxton already and to improve on his top ten standing.
With the series not visiting the track near Andover last year, it will be interesting to see what emerges from the single race on Saturday and Sunday’s double-header which form races 10, 11 and 12 of the 33-race series, with a full house of spectators allowed.
