Second Tour of the Potteries hailed huge success
A cycle challenge which saw 147 entrants peddle from Stoke-on-Trent towards the Peak District has been hailed a huge success.
The second FUCHS SILKOLENE Tour of the Potteries took place on Sunday, with cyclists of all abilities taking part in either the 104km or 44km route.
Both routes started and finished at FUCHS’ brand new headquarters in Hanley, where the company manufactures its range of premium lubricants for everything from bicycles to ships, cars to factory machines.
There were also 25km and 10km rides for children and their families.
Joost Van Genderen, Head of FUCHS SILKOLENE, said: “The Tour of the Potteries was once again a huge success.
“People really enjoyed both courses, which were challenging yet fun. We had a huge turn out with proceeds going towards The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice in Stoke.”
“This event is now becoming a firm favourite on the cycling calendar. It’s a fantastic occasion for FUCHS SILKOLENE to be involved in.”
The event was organised and managed by cycling events company, Wheels in Wheels, with mechanical and medical support all along the route.
First home on the long route was Gary Wiseman in a time of 4hrs 9mins.
Chad Harper was triumphant on the short route, while seven-year-old Henry Rogers won the family route challenge.
There were FUCHS SILKOLENE gifts for the riders who had registered in advance.
Joost added: “A big thank you to everyone who was involved in the organisation of the event, from the guys at Wheels in Wheels, to Spencer of Venture Cycles in Stoke who offered free bike maintenance to anyone who needed it before the off.”
FUCHS SILKOLENE ran a Design a Helmet competition alongside the Tour of the Potteries, which was won by eight-year-old Charlotte Cassidy of Alderley Edge after an online vote.
The contest was run in conjunction with leading cycle safety Cycle-Smart, which encourages children to wear helmets while out on their bikes.
Charlotte will receive her helmet as a real product, as well as a bike stunt show at her school this week.
FUCHS SILKOLENE has a range of bicycle products, including wet lube, dry lube and everyday lube as well as suspension fork oils, greases and maintenance products.
