Cycle Thrill for Alderley Schoolgirls
Schoolgirls in Cheshire were left in awe as they were treated to a spectacular cycle stunt show – thanks to the snazzy artwork of one of their fellow pupils. Eight-year-old Charlotte Cassidy came out on top of a nationwide challenge to win the FUCHS SILKOLENE Design a Cycle Helmet competition.
As part of the prize, more than 200 girls watched a thrilling bike stunt show from The Extreme Mountain Bike Team – headed up by multiple British and European Trials champion Danny Butler - at the school, Alderley Edge School for Girls.
The girls have also received a safety talk from Angela Lee, chief executive of The Cycle-Smart Foundation, while Charlotte’s design – based on a weather theme with rainbows, lightning, sun and stars - was made into a real helmet.
Bridget Howard, headmistress of Alderley Edge School for Girls Junior School, said: “The cycle show was absolutely spectacular and it really captured the imagination of all of the girls who watched it. “We’re delighted that Charlotte came out on top in this national competition. It was an excellent design and her helmet looks fantastic.”
The competition was organised by FUCHS SILKOLENE, a leading manufacturer of superior motorcycle and cycle oils, along with award-winning child’s safety charity Cycle-Smart.
Sally Travis, marketing manager at FUCHS, said: “We were delighted to take Danny and the team into Charlotte’s school as a reward for her brilliant helmet design.
“We have a range of bicycle products for people to use and know how important cycling safety is, which is what made this competition so important.”
