CA1 Sport enjoy Pirelli rally success

01.05.2018 - 09:57

Fuchs backed rally preparation team CA1 Sport’s involvement on the second round of the British Rally championship got off to a (literally) flying start on Saturday in Kielder forest, but then improved during the day.

The involuntary ‘flyer’ was David Bogie’s Skoda Fabia R5 on stage one when the crew slipped slightly wide on a tightening right hander and got caught out by the camber on the exit as the back wheels both got on the wrong side of the crown of the road. The resulting high speed accident was spectacular in the extreme, but both crew walked away chastened, but unscathed.  CA1 boss Martin Wilkinson said afterwards that, although it looked frightening, the car had stood up well to the rolling impact, and there was relatively little body damage.

David is already looking forward to the rest of the season, which might include the next round of the Scottish championship or possibly an event on tarmac in France in preparation for the next BRC round, the Ypres rally in Belgium.

Meanwhile Rhys Yates and co-driver Elliott Edmondson, also in a Skoda Fabia R5, took time to settle in to the event (although never lower than 5th on any stage) before upping their pace on the afternoon stages and taking fastest time on the final stage of the day to overtake Keith Cronin and Mikie Galvin (Ford Fiesta R5) and move into a well-deserved second place overall behind winners Matt Edwards and Darren Garrod (Ford Fiesta R5).

The third crew being serviced by the CA1 team was that of Tom Preston and Max Freeman, also in a Skoda Fabia R5, and they reported a trouble free run over the eight stages to take 8th place.
