Allingham Double Podium & Debut Supersport Win

23.07.2018 - 09:07

David Allingham took his debut win for EHA Racing and his first-ever in the British Supersport Championship, when he stood on the top step of the feature race podium earlier today, during round six of the 2018 series at Brands Hatch. It was a fitting reward for the Irish rider after taking second place in Saturday’s sprint race and the fastest lap of the race, just one place ahead of his team-mate Ross Twyman [third], who unfortunately crashed out of podium contention on Sunday.

The win from pole position is a massive confidence booster for young Derry man Allingham, who now believes he can kick-on and become a regular front runner for the remainder of the season aboard the EHA Racing machine.

“I had a tough start to the year and my confidence was dented as I just couldn’t seem to find the right balance with the new Yamaha R6. We’ve moved back to the old bike for a couple of rounds to see if we could find some sort of rhythm, and it’s worked,” smiled Allingham.

“I might have been a little fortunate today when Currie developed some problems late on, but you have to finish to win it and I kept pushing right until the end. We’ve worked hard all weekend and this is as much a reward for everyone within EHA Racing as it is for me.”

“Del, my mechanic has kept the faith and been a massive help, and for this round I worked with Craig Fitzpatrick as acting crew chief. The goal going forward is to get back onto the new Yamaha, but for now I’ll savour that first win. But what a weekend for EHA Racing with my second place on Saturday and Ross [Twyman] third, and Joe Collier getting two wins in the Superstock class for the team,” Allingham concluded.

Ross Twyman said of his weekend: “We made a change today and went in the wrong direction and the bike was tucking the front almost everywhere, so we did well to hold a podium pace challenge for so long before crashing out. I’m delighted with the podium on Saturday, but I felt with the right set-up we could have been even closer to the win on Sunday. Well done to David on his first win in the class.”

Gail Allingham – Team Manager: “Everyone is delighted for David grabbing his first win in the Supersport class, and of course both he and Ross did a great job putting both EHA Racing bikes on the podium on Saturday. A lot of hard work has gone into getting the Supersport effort to this point and we now need to re-evaluate and see what else we can add to the overall package, so we can run at the sharp end on each and every race weekend. We had lots of friends and family here this weekend and plenty of support from sponsors and guests, so it was nice to reward them with three wins from our five podium finishes over the two classes.”
