10.07.2019 - 03:14

Builth Wells hosts fifth round of FUCHS 1400 Rally Championship

The Nicky Grist Stages Rally is the fifth round of the FUCHS 1400 class in the 2019 BTRDA Rally Championship in Mid-Wales this weekend.

The event is being hosted in the town centre, and will feature two loops of stages (morning and afternoon comprising Crychan, Halfway, Monument and Llyn Login) with a lunchtime service halt returning the crews to the Rugby ground in Builth.

The 1400 competitors, with current leading crew Chris Powell and Jim Lewis at the front, will be at the head of the 130 car entry when the rally starts at 8.30am.

FUCHS drivers Joel and Naylor in Nicky Grist Rally top ten

FUCHS supported crew Ian Joel/Shaun Hughes are seeded at number four in their eye catching Ford Escort Cosworth in the 130 car entry for the Nicky Grist Stages Rally and are looking forward to this Saturday’s event.

Ian said: “We’re ready to go for this weekend and hoping for better than last time.  The car is nicely sorted, and I’m looking forward to having Shaun on the notes for these seldom used stages.”

Pat Naylor and Ian Lawrence are also seeded in the top ten in their Group N Mitsubishi Evo 9 following a series of good results this year.

Kirkham Gartrac G3 at Goodwood

Neil Kirkham again flew the flag for Fuchs Lubricants at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, after being invited to partake in the rally stage of the event.

The car escaped unscathed at the end of two hard days, and Neil was satisfied with his performance over the course of the weekend.

His next event will be the charity event CarFest North, when he plans to give passenger rides with all proceeds being donated to Children in Need.

M&M grace world stage

M&M Motorsport took to the global stage for the National Hot Rods World Final in Ipswich.

Gavin qualified for the World Final in 18thspot, going close to bettering that time on his final lap only to go into the last corner a little too hot.

Starting on the outside of row nine was always going to be tricky and Gavin got forced out wide into the dusty outside and spun into the wall during the early stages.

Rejoining a lap down and with damage, Gavin retired after just 15 laps.

However, the event quickly improved in race two – the Betfred Trophy – when Gavin started 14thon the reverse grid and managed to improve to seventh in the 25 lap race.

Gavin continued to shine in the final race of the day – the 35 lap Nick Thomas Memorial Race – and, after being drawn to start 25th, he ended in a very credible 14th.

Tudor impresses in latest BSMA outing

Rich Tudor caught the eye with two impressive displays in the latest BSMA meeting hosted by the Cotswold Club at Pontrials in Hereford.

Despite lots of water going down on the track, dust was a concern throughout the day.

Rich’s meeting got off to a slow start with a crash affecting his performance in race one, but he recovered to take the chequered flag in fifth spot.

He performed even better in race two, achieving a third place finish to seal fourth overall when the action was brought to a premature end due to the dust.

JSR secure solid weekend

Round seven of the AMCA Championship at Hawkstone Park was a more than satisfying one for JSR.

James Dodd kept himself in third spot in the championship standings after a third and two fourth place finishes for an overall fourth place on the testing Hawkstone circuit.

Andy Smart was competitive throughout the day, finishing in seventh and eighth before a frustrating DNF in the concluding race.

Meanwhile, it was a day of steady improvement from Ashley Thomas who recorded finishes of 14th, 11thand 10th.

The championship standings after round seven has Dodd in third, Thomas seventh and Smart 14th.

Marchant fourth at The Grange

FUCHS Silkolene ambassador Andy Marchant continued his impressive form with a fourth place finish in the latest Moto Cross event at The Grange in Telford.
