Weekly Motorsport Round-Up #10
The eyes of the world have been on the Isle of Man this week for the famous TT.
As ever, many of the top competitors have chosen to use FUCHS SILKOLENE.
The event runs until Friday, but there has already been some success for our sponsored racers.
Peter Hickman of Smiths Racing managed a fantastic second in the RST Superbike TT, while David Johnson of Norton Racing was seventh and Michael Rutter was sixth.
Devitt RC Express’ Ivan Lintin was 13th in the Monster Energy Supersport TT 1, Daniel Cooper was P19 and Daniel Hegarty P20.
Oilee Racing’s Joe Akroyd, another SILKOLENE competitor, unfortunately came off his bike and has been transferred to Liverpool for treatment on fractures.
In the Sure Sidecar TT 1 Dave Molyneux / Daniel Sayle were third while Tim Reeves / Mark Wilkes came home in fifth.
Elsewhere, Neil Williams and Peter James headed the 2017 FUCHS LUBRICANTS R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship contenders on round three, the Mini Epynt Stages on Sunday.
On a day when rain made conditions particularly demanding over the Epynt ranges, Williams was always in control with a masterful display and his established pace on Epynt ensured his second R.A.C. championship win from three events.
Second among the championship contenders was the BMW M3 of Roger Moran/Keaton Williams, just over a minute down on the Ford Escort Mk2 of Williams.
A second M3 made a welcome debut in the hands of Super Touring racer Paul Smith and co-driver Tudor Jenkins. Smith had a rallying baptism of fire when caught on the wrong tyres on the very wet opening stage. He slid off for over two minutes but later set some very encouraging stage times.
David Kynaston and Greg Evans turned in a great performance in the Triumph TR7 V8 to be third R.A.C. crew ahead of Lyndon Barton/Simon Hunter (Ford Escort Mk2). The Vintage Car Radiator Company Category 1 was again dominated by the Porsche 911 of Dessie Nutt and Geraldine McBride, after what Nutt described as a difficult day due to ever-changing weather conditions.
Despite exhaust dramas Ian Robertson and Andrew Scott won the Capital Construction Category 2 in their Hillman Avenger Tiger and finished just ahead of the Category 1 MG Midget of Bob Seager/Simon Hannam.

The FUCHS LUBRICANTS R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship continues with round four, the Harry Flatters Rally, on Sunday July 30.
The special award winners from the fourth round of the 2017 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship, the Severn Valley Stages have been announced.
The ‘Spirit of the Rally’ product award from FUCHS LUBRICANTS went to Mal Bayliss and Siobhan Pugh, who finally had a trouble-free rally after a catalogue of engine dramas to date this season.
Rounds five and six of the Mini 7 Racing Club S Class Championship was the best weekend of the year for Shaun Tarlton Racing, with two poles, two wins and a class lap record.
Shaun said: “None of this would be possible without of the support of people like FUCHS.”
The clock is ticking towards the next round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship at Pembrey race circuit in South Wales on June 25.
The FUCHS-backed Bellerby sisters, Drew and Paige, will be looking for more success – but their cars have needed a bit of work to get them ready.
Drew’s BMW needed the suspension rebuilding and the team have been working with experts AVO (UK) to repair the damage she did at Lydden.
Also in the wars at Lydden (in spite of her actually winning her final) was Paige, whose Lotus was found to have a broken brake disc when the car was taken back to the workshop.
But all these problems have now been resolved and they are both looking forward to competing on the newly designed Pembrey circuit.
In action this weekend is Adam Morgan in the BTCC. Adam will be looking to bounce back after disappointment at Oulton Park, during which he had to escape from his Mercedes which was engulfed by flames.
