PENTOSIN - Additional special lubricants for FUCHS brand
A range of high-tech central hydraulic fluids (CHFs) and double clutch transmission (DCT) oils, previously available under the Pentosin brand, have been re-launched into the aftermarket under the FUCHS Pentosin brand.
FUCHS Lubricants completed the purchase of German manufacturer PENTOSIN-WERKE (DPW)in 2015, paving the way for a newly-launched special product range.
It includes a selection of double clutch transmission oils and central hydraulic fluids with approvals for a number of vehicles by marques including Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, GETRAG and ZF. The oils are also recommended for some vehicles made by BMW, JLR and Porsche.
Andy Brown, UK Automotive Technical Manager at FUCHS Lubricants UK, said: “PENTOSIN was acquired to give FUCHS a stronger position in the OEM market.
“There is a market, however, for the CHFs and DCT oils as aftermarket products.
“These are niche products which, in many cases, are not available anywhere else. The DCT oils are particularly key because they play an important role in fuel economy and emissions.
“If you can change gears quickly and more easily, and at the right (most efficient) time, it all helps to reduce the amount of fuel you are using.
“FUCHS has always been well-respected for engine oils. This acquisition will help build the transmission and gear oils side of the business.”
Andy said transmission oils are becoming more bespoke and also tend to be factory-fill and fill-for-life, meaning that the aftermarket opportunities are limited.
But he added: “There will always be times when the oils need to be replaced, even if the first-fill is intended to last for the life of the car. In many cases, when manufacturers talk about the life of the car, what they mean is until the end of the warranty in five years.
“We know that there are a lot of old cars around and that will always be the case. There will come a time when cars with double clutch transmissions will be in that old car market.”
The products will be distributed from FUCHS’ Hanley HQ to improve customer experience.
With over 100 years of experience, FUCHS develops and manufactures a diverse range of automotive lubricants at its Stoke-on-Trent manufacturing plant, including engine oils, gear oils and service fluids.
