Preventing Rust Rework with Anti-Corrosion Coating

Case Study - ANTICORIT DFO 6101

Challenge

A customer that manufactures 2 inch steel pipes and makes gates and fencing for the ranching industry was experiencing issues with rust. Due to seasonal weather and periods of lower demand, the anti-corrosion properties from the mill coolant would not provide enough protection. This would require them to sandblast rusted pipe before their welding process. While effective, sandblasting is an additional and abrasive process that does not prevent rust from forming.

Application

Steel Pipes

Solution

A spray system was installed at the mill and ANTICORIT DFO 6101 was applied to all pipes. Even though the mill runs 24/7, only five drums of product are needed per year to protect the steel against rust.

Results

The thin layer of ANTICORIT doesn’t interfere with welding or powder coat processes. The use of ANTICORIT prevents rust from forming and keeps the pipe ready to be pulled off the shelf for welding anytime there is demand. This saves the customer at least a half day of labor to sandblast rust from steel before the welding process and saves them over $50,000 per year in handling, labor, and sandblasting eqiumpent upkeep. These savings are 10 times the cost of the ANTICORIT DFO 6101, meaning the product paid for itself 10 times over.
