Case Study - High-Efficiency Grease for CVJs

Challenge

A tier one automotive supplier was in search of lubricants for their new constant velocity joint (CVJ) program for electric vans. They required a high efficiency, durable, sound dampening grease for the CVJ’s inboard and outboard side shafts. Additionally, the lubricant needed to perform well at elevated temperatures and low temperatures and withstand high torques for the life of the application.

Solution

Several greases were developed with the best candidates provided to the customer for evaluation, including a new formulation designed specifically for the application in question. The customer conducted full scale dynamomoter testing, boot material compatibility testing, efficiency and durability testing. Ultimately the greases with the best commercial conditions, durability, performance, and chemical resistance were selected.

RENOLIT PU SCVT 1 from FUCHS was chosen for their inboard side shaft joint and RENOLIT CX CVL NA for their outboard side shaft joint. These efficient greases offer excellent low and high temperature performance while dampening sound to minimize knock noise. These greases are free of lithium, ensuring a stable, sustainable supply.
