Did you know – tips on smarter lubrication?
More efficient, easier, cheaper or just generally better. In this blog, we give you useful tips on technique, lubrication routines and products. We call it "did you know", and common to all the tips is that they pave the way for smarter lubrication.
DID YOU KNOW THAT...
... TEMPERATURE INCREASES RESULT IN CLOSER LUBRICATION INTERVALS. At an operating temperature above 70 degrees, a temperature increase of 15 degrees means that you have to lubricate twice as often. This means additional work, but also increased costs because the consumption of lubricants increases.
... IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT GLYCOL THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE. There are products in all the colours of the rainbow, and using the wrong type can be expensive. All varieties are not miscible. It can lead to clogged cooling systems, increased corrosion, leakage or engine breakdowns. Check your car's owner's manual or use the online tool via this link.
... GREASES WITH A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS PROVIDE SIMPLIFICATIONS. Often, several products are used to meet the needs, but by choosing one product that adapts to the application, there is a lot to save – both in time and cost. The new generation of greases is based on polymers, resists acids and alkalis and does not wash away. In other words, contact us and we will tell you more.
... SYNTHETIC OIL IS MORE EXPENSIVE TO BUY, BUT STILL A PROFITABLE CHOICE. Synthetic oil reduces friction between machine parts and reduces material stress. This extends the life of the components. In addition, the shift intervals are extended. This results in less handling, plus lower maintenance costs.
... OVER-LUBRICATION CAUSES MANY BEARING BREAKDOWNS. Studies show that between 30 and 40% of such breakdowns are related to over-lubrication. To avoid this, it is important to lubricate with the right amount at the right time. More is not better, on the contrary, the amount of lubricant can create problems. The temperature gets higher, the fats age and become slower, which puts technical stress. Also, do not put too high pressure in the lubricating syringe. It can damage the gaskets, cause leaks that lead to corrosion, cause wear and increase the risk of breakdown.
... THE RIGHT LUBRICANT CAN REDUCE ENERGY LOSS. In a warehouse on a turbine, energy loss can be reduced by 20%. And when efficiency is increased, the number of kilowatt hours produced increases, resulting in better profitability. Investments in power-enhancing turbine oil can even be saved within the first year. By using an oil with a long life – up to ten years – there is also money to be saved on maintenance. These turbine oils are of course biodegradable, so that any leaks do not cause damage in sensitive water areas.
... FULLY SYNTHETIC OILS REDUCE ENGINE WEAR DURING COLD STARTS, that is, compared to mineral oils that thicken at low temperatures and lose much of their ability to lubricate around the engine. This increases the pressure and heat, while the load on the oil pump, among other things, increases. A fully synthetic oil, on the other hand, has a lower viscosity, flows more easily and retains its lubricity even when it is really cold, down to minus 30 degrees.
... LUBRICANTS CAN ALSO IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE OF SAWMILLS. These companies sometimes undergo environmental tests and must then document environmental improvements. Switching to eco-friendly products can be one way to demonstrate such improvements, especially as sawmills use a lot of lubricant in hydraulic equipment, conveyor chains and other engineering. Of course, the environmentally adapted products are biodegradable.
