Save money by streamlining your compressed air processes

Do you use compressed air anywhere in your business? If you work in an industrial company, the answer is probably yes. Today, around 70% of Europe's industrial companies use compressed air in parts of their operations. That's so much that about 10% of all industrial electricity is used exclusively to generate compressed air. Only in Europe. But this number can change...

With so many people using compressed air, many people would benefit greatly from reviewing both the systems and their use. This applies regardless of whether the compressed air is used to blow clean, inflate, cool, move, lift or create other movements.

INEFFICIENT PROCESS
The production of compressed air is an extremely inefficient process, in fact, only 5-6% of the energy supplied results in usable compressed air. It is simply one of the most expensive and energy-intensive systems we humans use. What's more, up to half of all compressed air is produced to no avail because it's never used. Usually it disappears due to unnecessarily high pressure, due to improper use and in leaks. Such things cost.

EXPENSIVE PROCESS
Producing 1 cubic metre of compressed air per minute and year costs close to NOK 100,000. This means that a single small leak with a diameter of 1 millimeter risks costing a company about NOK 7000 per year.

BENEFIT FROM CONTINUOUS CHECKS
There is simply a lot to be gained from carrying out continuous checks of both the systems and their use, to check that they are not leaking and that the pressure is not higher than necessary. But you also benefit from being aware of how you use compressed air, because this affects both the economy and the environment. Do you have control over where and how much compressed air you use, how the systems work and how it affects your accounting and environmental footprint?

MODERN COMPRESSOR OILS SAVE BOTH MONEY AND THE ENVIRONMENT
With a well-lubricated system without leaks and unnecessarily high pressure, you can easily save energy – and in this way cut both costs and CO2-emission. Many people use a mineral oil-based compressor oil out of habit, not knowing the benefits that come with an upgrade to synthetically formulated oil, which provides both a longer life and thus longer drain intervals. These are benefits that help to lower the cost of both maintenance work and the purchase of lubricants.
