Ladies Shine at First Race of SAMRA 250 Ladies Cup Series
The Monroe Racing team’s 2018 campaign got off to a good start for the ladies Savannah Woodward and Zoe Bosch as they embarked on their first race, the SAMRA 250 Ladies Cup at Zwartkops Raceway.
The SAMRA 250 Ladies Cup is a new competition providing female racers with platform to deliver on their natural talent. Equally matched 250cc bikes are used, and in each race a draw system has been put in place to swap out bikes for different races.
Heat 1: There was a neck-and-neck contest between a few of the contestants who were familiar with racing. Among them were the FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored racers Woodward and Bosch. In the end, Woodward’s experience came into play and she held onto the lead, securing pole position. Bosch finished in fourth place on the grid.
Heat 2: Woodward’s confidence saw her open a gap on her competitors to claim her second victory in both races. Bosch gave her best and finished Heat 2 in sixth position. Due to a technicality regarding the availability of tyres, the Zwartkops Raceway round was reclassified as a non-championship event.
Woodward also competed in the Super Motard category where she made her competitive debut. This category saw her taking another trophy home after finishing second overall for the day.
“I’ve been doing a lot of practice prior to the racing which has helped in what was a competitive day of racing,” said Woodward.
Bosch added: “It was an exciting day of racing in this class. As the season continues I would like to encourage other ladies racing in South Africa to participate in the championship.”
The next events on the calendar will see Woodward participating in the opening round of the SuperGP Champions Trophy at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, February 24. On March 3, Bosch will be travelling to Zimbabwe for the opening round of the 2018 National Superbike championship.
