28.02.2018 - 11:41

On her debut in the new Super300 Class and Super600 category under the Super-GP Championships Trophy, Monroe Racing’s rider, Savannah Woodward sponsored by FUCHS Lubricants, finished in podium position. The race was marked Round 1 of the 2018 Super-GP Champions Trophy held at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, February 24.

During the practice sessions Woodward worked on improving her handling and speed technique with the team’s race engineer. On race day the team put final touches to the bike’s mechanics to ensure Woodward would have the best race on the day.

In the first race, Woodward got off to a good start, staying with the top riders and finishing in third position. The final lap saw Woodward being passed on the outside of the last corner and finished fifth.

Race 2 saw the two leading riders open a gap on the rest of the peloton. This left room for some competitive racing for third position. Woodward was not going to see this one slip without putting on a fight. Showing skill, experience and determination, she came through holding onto the third position.

After the race, Woodward concluded: “The move to the national championship proved to be quite a challenge, but the support from team made it look easy. FUCHS Lubricants South Africa support is also making the riding worthwhile with the Silkolene products they are supplying. I’m looking forward to all races that are lined up for the rest of the season.”

In the Super600 Class Woodward was joined by Luca Coccioni who has been making guest appearances for the team since 2017.

Both racers started well but soon found themselves behind the leaders with Coccioni in 3rd and Woodward 4th. Savannah managed to take the lead to win the race and Cuccioni finished in 4th position. The second race against saw a good start from the duo, but an oil spillage declared the track too dangerous for racing to continue and Woodward was again declared overall winner for the day.

Round 2 of Super-GP Champions Trophy will take place at the Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town on Saturday, March 24.
