MONROE Racing RSA Team at Round 3 of Super-GP Champions Trophy: 2018
Following the their absence from Round 2, FUCHS Lubricants, sponsored MONROE Racing RSA team returned to the Super-GP Champions Trophy for Round 3 at the Border Motorsport - East London Grand Prix Circuit.
Nicole van Aswegen earned the respect of many motorsport enthusiasts for her performances in the Super 600 class.
Following a confidence-boosting return to main circuit racing during a recent visit to Zimbabwe, Van Aswegen (Nix21) impressed during her first Super-GP Champions Trophy outing after two years on Saturday, 28 April, 2018 in East London.
She was confident ahead of practice day. Unfortunately, she suffered from a bronchitis infection which compromised her form, but she managed to finish the race in twelfth position.
Race 1: Still with ill health, Van Aswegen finished in ninth position. Race 2 had to be halted after five laps due to an accident and Van Aswegen was in eleventh position at the time. During the restart, she pushed to get back into the top ten. Unfortunately, she was involved in an accident and couldn’t finish the race. At the end of the race she was classified in twelfth position overall for the day. In the local BMSC race she qualified in eighth position on Friday evening. She unfortunately withdrew from participating in the race.
Another Monroe Racing’s RSA seasoned rider Luca Coccioni who mostly participates in regional and club events, was also in action in the Super 300 Class. He finished in sixth position in the qualifiers. In the two main races of the day he finished in fifth position in both races.
In two weeks Nicole and teammate Zoé Bosch will embark on Round 3 of the Zimbabwe Superbike Championship at Sables Dragpro, Zimbabwe in Harare, on May 20 followed by Round 4 of the Super-GP Champions Trophy at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit the following weekend.
