The 2017 race season is officially underway and AM Racing’s Alex Marques and Lyle Ramsay of Monroe Racing RSA, both sponsored by Fuchs Lubricants South Africa, made their debut in their respective classes at Zwartkops Raceway on Tuesday 21 March.

Marques’s qualifying round went well, he finished 6th in Class A and the new car was stable and handled well. Racing in Class A, in the first race, Alex finished in 4th place and in the second he finished in 5th place.

Ramsay’s 2017 Comsol VW Challenge Class B campaign got off to a successful start. He finished 2nd in the qualifying round. The opening race saw Ramsay making a good start taking second place. In the second race Ramsay maintained the perfect line through the slower sections and took second place.

However, fortune favoured him as the race winner was found to have jumped the start in Race 2 resulting in a 30 second penalty which was applied to his finishing time giving Ramsay the overall victory for the day.

The next stop for both Alex and Lyle will be Red Star Raceway for Round 2 of the Extreme Festival and Comsol VW Challenge respectively on Saturday April 29th 2017.
