FUCHS Lubricants Embraces World Water Day
World Water Day is an annual UN observance day that highlights the importance of freshwater. The day is used to advocate the sustainable management of freshwater resources and is celebrated around the world with a variety of events.
As part of FUCHS Lubricants South Africa (FLSA) Sustainability Plan, to mark this this on 29 March, the company hosted an exhibition highlighting to staff ways to conserve water at their offices in Isando.
The company aims to use “World Water Day” as an employee initiative to find, share and implement ideas to address environmental issues while reducing water consumption.
“With stats showing that we live in a world where almost one billion people don’t have access to clean water, 50% of Africa does not have access to clean drinking water and 2.1 billion people live without safe water in their homes. Surely the most logical thing to do is to preserve this precious resource,” Faith Baloyi, a member of the FUCHS Lubricants South Africa sustainability team.
FUCHS Lubricants is aiming to equip and share with its staff members best practises on water savings by engaging with them and having them contribute ideas.
FUCHS Lubricants employee Edward Mahuwa said: “The company can save water by installing machines to recycle water used in the bathrooms.”
Another suggestion was that, “Instead of using tap water, why not use Jojo tanks and capture rain water which in turn can be used for flushing toilets or used in an emergency in case of a fire.”
