MOTORSPORT UPDATE STATEMENT -WILFORD RACING
As COVID-19 begins to recede and the spring sun breaks through, the roar of the
Mobil 1 V8 Supercars, the smell of fuel and burning rubber, not to mention the smiles of competitors hidden behind their masks, will soon be seen and heard again.
October 3rd is the first meeting for the balance of the 2020 season and is scheduled to take place at Phakisa Raceway, OFS. This venue is still to be confirmed as MSA still have to approve all safety issues at the circuit. Going forward, two more races are envisaged for the balance of the year – dates and venues to be confirmed once information comes to hand. For the balance of 2020, spectators will not be permitted at the circuits. However, we hope this will change in 2021.
For 2021, the hope and belief is that we will once again enjoy a full season of racing at all the circuits around the country. Proposed rounds and venues as follows:
- 3x Race Meetings @ Zwartkops Raceway
- 2x Race Meetings @ Red Star Raceway
- 1x Race Meeting @ Phakisa Raceway, Welkom
- 1x Race Meeting @ Port Elizabeth
These venues have to be confirmed and ratified by MSA and we will keep all parties updated at the earliest opportunity. 2021 will also see live streaming at all events over and above the normal TV programme.
Some exciting news is that the normal racing calendar of the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars is to include the Festival of Motoring at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in August next year. The Mobil 1 V8 Supercars are the only formula to be re-invited to participate in this highly prestigious event which sees spectator attendance of over 65,000 people.
The FUCHS V8 Ford Falcon finished in a very strong second place position at Red Star just prior to lockdown. We are confident that we will carry our competitiveness forward for the balance of the season and fly the Fuchs banner high and proud!
