Great 2021 Season Opener For Motorsport Teams - Race Report 6 and 13 March
The month of March has re-affirmed that Motorsport Racing is back, and FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored teams took to their different competitions in search of victory.
HUD Racing: On Saturday, 13 March David Huddy (Driver) and Buks Carolin (Navigator) took part in the Feeler Barberspan 300 off-road race that formed round 2 of the TIORC Series (The Inland Off Road Championship Series). TIORC has taken over from the original regional series for off-road/ cross country racing.
After not having raced for 14 months, the team duo had nerves on the start line for the 103km prologue on Saturday. After 3km they were in the groove and put foot in their HUD Racing Nissan Navara thanks to FUCHS Lubricants.
Prologue: After being ceded 21 for the prologue, they were the 6th fastest on the road in their 4.0l V6 HUD Racing Nissan Navara Class S.
Main Race: David and Buks now had to face a further 207kms racing and went flat out from the start. Unfortunately, a tyre change saw them losing 10 positions to 16th. However, the team’s combined experience and skill saw them pass a few competitors and finish the race in well-deserved 10th position overall and 1st in Class S.
Johann Barnard: The Capri boasting retro FUCHS branding was well prepped for the first 2021 race under the pre-80’s Historic Saloon Car series in the HRSA (Historic Racing South Africa) club.
Race 1: The Capri started well but unfortunately, lost power and lost a few places.
Race 2: The team managed to find the fuel starvation problem and started 18th on the grid. Johann quickly passed a few competitors and moved up to 7th place within 2 laps. Unfortunately, a mechanical failure resulting in him not finishing the race.
The team is working on getting the car ready for the next race at Phakisa Race Way in Welkom on the 10th of April.
Marc Ansley: Round 1 of the Womza Interprovincial Motocross Championship took place at Holeshot Harry's Motocross track in Harrismith on the 13 March.
Practise: Ansley qualified 2nd, putting him in a second place start in the MX3 Masters Class for Heat 1.
Heats 1 and 2: Ansley and a competitor pulled away from the rest of the pack and he finished second in both races. Finishing second in both Heats saw Ansley being given a 2nd overall in the Masters Class. Next race will be on the 27 March at the Eroa MX track in Kempton park.
