Wilford the Rain King at Zwartkops
Terry Wilford headed up the team’s efforts in the Fuchs Lubricants Ford Mustang. Throughout Friday, the weather kept changing, but in the afternoon’s wet qualifying session, Terry recorded his first pole position of the season. In Saturday’s first of three races, he was involved in the lead-tussle throughout to finish as runner-up. He started a wet second race from the front as well, a position he did not look back from, recording his second win of the season with a seven-second advantage. However, a wheel failure in the day’s final race brought his day to a halt, also resulting in him finishing fourth in the championship. In both the early races, he recorded the fastest laps as well.
“We were chasing that second place in the championship, and no one can say we didn’t try hard as we literally drove the wheels off the car” said Terry. “It was another good weekend in the Mustang, a car that really breathed new life into the second half of our season. We have built a solid foundation to launch from in 2023.”
The success was not only limited to Terry. Larry Wilford had a few sporadic outings in his Fuchs Lubricants / Aurora Bearings Chevrolet Corvette but, until this weekend, have not completed a full event in the car. He recorded three points-paying results from eighth place on the gird, with a ninth place in Race 1, before two eighth-place finishes in the last two races.
“This car is only going one way, and that’s forward” said Larry. “It has taken a lot of work, but now we are down to fine-tuning things ahead of our 2023 onslaught. We are definitely ready for a dual attack next year.”
