HUD Racing Conquers Racing World

1. Lichtenberg 400 (31 March – 1 April)

The Lichtenberg 400 took place on the 31 March and 1 April 2017 and was based at the sprawling Lichtenburg showgrounds in the North West Province.

The preparation was intense as it was to be HUD Racing’s maiden entrance into the S Class of the South African National Cross Country (SACCS) racing series by FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored HUD Racing. The newly acquired Nissan Navara V6 had been tweaked and was ready for the major league racing.

The 70km qualifying round on Friday, 31 March saw the team duo of David Huddy-driver and Gerhard Schutte-navigator finish in 4th position.

Main race: Saturday, 1 April - Unfortunately, mechanical failure saw the team having to retire from the race early.

Back in the Hud Race workshop the team reflected: “Our experience from racing in the beginner’s class had been our proving ground for the high-quality lubricants obtained from our co-sponsors, FUCHS Lubricants. We had no equipment related component failure due to the lubricants used so we were confident in our preparation of the Navara.”

The South African Cross Country National Series Battlefields 400 was held on 12-13 May in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. This was the team’s duo of David Huddy-driver and Gerhard Schutte-navigator first ever ‘wet race’.

Qualifying - HUD Racing Nissan Navara V6 finished 2nd in Class S. In the main race, the Fuchs Lubricants Nissan Navara performed faultlessly in exceptionally harsh operating conditions finishing in 2nd position. The team also got their first podium finish in the South African Cross Country Series.
