Pleasing Mid-Year Racing Results from HUD, Wilford and Monroe Racing Teams
Team Wilford And Super V8 Return to East London
After an absence of four years, the V8 Supercars returned to the Eastern Cape on the 22 July. The race saw 16 cars take to the starting line. Wilford Racing Team in their FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored V8 Falcons made the decision to try the FUCHS Pro Race Brake Fluid for the first time. Considering that the cars were reaching speeds in excess of 300 kph, they needed all the stopping power that could be mustered.
The practice race saw the Wilford Racing Team starting in 3rd and 4th position on the grid. Heat 1: Larry Wilford #77 finished 2nd and Terry #7 came in 4th.
Heat 2: Terry started in pole position, but mechanical issues saw him pull out of the race early. Larry started 5th on the grid and he finished 5th and 3rd overall position for the day.
“A gratifying race weekend with another trophy for the cabinet. Thanks to FUCHS for their continued sponsorship of the team.” The next V8 Supercars race at the Zwartkops Race Circuit on 16 September.
Savannah Makes her visit to East London Worthwhile
It was a case of second time lucky for Savannah#77 as she set off to the East London, Aldo Scribante Racetrack for the 600cc Class race. The FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored Monroe Racing Team rider was both mentally and physically prepared to come out victorious.
Qualifying round on Saturday saw her finish in 5th position. Race1: Savannah was still getting to grips with the spare bike. She finished in 4th position.
Heat 2: The pressure was on. She finished in a deserved third position with a podium finish. The third race produced a titanic battle similar to what you'd see in MotoGP. “The fellow female riders displayed ecstatic determination and commitment which was an absolute pleasure to be part of,” she said.
HUD Racing Conquers Racing World
1. Lichtenberg 400 (31 March – 1 April)
The Lichtenberg 400 took place on the 31 March and 1 April 2017 and was based at the sprawling Lichtenburg showgrounds in the North West Province.
The preparation was intense as it was to be HUD Racing’s maiden entrance into the S Class of the South African National Cross Country (SACCS) racing series by FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored HUD Racing. The newly acquired Nissan Navara V6 had been tweaked and was ready for the major league racing.
The 70km qualifying round on Friday, 31 March saw the team duo of David Huddy-driver and Gerhard Schutte-navigator finish in 4th position.
Main race: Saturday, 1 April - Unfortunately, mechanical failure saw the team having to retire from the race early.
Back in the Hud Race workshop the team reflected: “Our experience from racing in the beginner’s class had been our proving ground for the high-quality lubricants obtained from our co-sponsors, FUCHS Lubricants. We had no equipment related component failure due to the lubricants used so we were confident in our preparation of the Navara.”
2. Dundee - Battlefields 400 (12-13 May)
The South African Cross Country National Series Battlefields 400 was held on 12-13 May in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. The FUCHS Lubricants-Sponsored HUD Racing team encountered rainy, icy cold winds and mud, which made the obstacle even more challenging. This was the team’s duo of David Huddy-driver and Gerhard Schutte-navigator first ever ‘wet race’.
Qualifying - HUD Racing Nissan Navara V6 finished 2nd in Class S. In the main race, the Fuchs Lubricants Nissan Navara performed faultlessly in exceptionally harsh operating conditions finishing in 2nd position. The team also got their first podium finish in the South African Cross Country Series.

3. Vryburg 250 (19-20 May)
The Regional race, the Vryburg 250 took place in North West Province where FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored HUD Racing E14 Nissan participated in Class E.
The Race: The HUD Racing E14 Nissan Hardbody drive by Roddy Cook and Rikus Hattingh crossed the finish line 2nd in Class E and 4th overall in the Production Vehicle category, bringing home the silverware.
This was the 2nd podium finish for HUD Racing sponsored by FUCHS Lubricants in class E, in the Regionals this season.
