Larry Wilford Pulls Off Spectacular Win at Season Finale Race
The final race of the 2017 season found the V8 Supercars back at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Terry had still not recovered and was forced to miss the final race. So, once again, the FUCHS flag was left to be carried by Larry.
The FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored team were currently in 2nd position in the Championship trailing by just four points. Qualifying went well and Larry finished 2nd on the grid. Heat 1 saw Larry finishing in 2nd position again, but this saw him lose points and meant he would have to beat his closest contender in Heat 2 if he was to maintain his 2nd position.
Heat 2: Having posted the fastest lap in Heat 1, the grid was reversed and this meant he would now start from the back of the grid. Larry knew that if he stood any chance of claiming victory, then his experience, skill and courage were the only thing to carry him to achieving that goal.
As the lights went green, Larry hit the gas on the FUCHS Lubricants Falcon, squeezing between the pit wall and the rows of competitors on his right. This prowess saw him outsmarting the pack and taking the lead. His Falcon was in 1st place, opened a 50 metre gap from the nearest opposition, and went on to win the race.
“Knowing I had the reliability of FUCHS Lubricants, made me put my foot down and provided the team with a huge degree of confidence. Great to have a first again and topped off with first overall for the day. Second in the Championship and looking forward to 2018,” said Larry.
