A Successful 2017 Season of Motorsport for FUCHS Lubricants-Sponsored Riders and Drivers

14.12.2017 - 12:00

The 2017 motorsport season has once again been successful for the FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored riders and drivers.

The opening round of the SuperGP Champions Trophy was filled with deserved victories for Lance Isaacs as he defended his SuperM Class. He also participated in the SuperGP Class. Despite having a few accidents in the middle of the season, which set him back for the SuperGP Championship, he finished in the top 10 in this category.

Lyle Ramsay, driver for Monroe Racing RSA team, had a good start to his Comsol VW Challenge Class B season. He was victorious in the first race. This was followed by several finishes in the top five. At the end of the season he was crowned second overall in his class, an overwhelming achievement.

Savannah Woodward, when turning 15 in 2015, Monroe Racing RSA decided to develop her into a contender on the 600cc bike. She was entered into different categories and tracks to gain experience before entering the challenging racing in major championships. This period helped her develop mentally and physically to compete in the National Championships.

In September, Savannah was awarded an opportunity to showcase her skills on the international stage. The superbike rider from Benoni travelled to Italy on an invitation extended by FUCHS Lubricants Italy, a sister company of her team’s sponsor, Fuchs Lubricants South Africa.

While in Italy, Savannah participated in FUCHS Silkolene Riding Days, an event organised by FUCHS Italy. She also had the chance to partake in a private test session on a Yamaha YZF-R1 under the supervision of Lorenzo Lanzi, former Ducati driver at the Autodrome Internazionale del Mugello in Tuscany. Savannah is looking forward to a successful 2018 season.

AM Racing’s Alex Marques made a good recovery after a challenging year. He claimed 8th overall out of 44 competitors, 6th in the class A championship and 5th in the Class C championship. AM Racing also won two 1st overall positions, two race wins, one 2nd place, one 3rd place and a number of top 5 finishes.

2017 was the first season for the HUD Racing team in the SACCS Nationals. Rodney James Cook and Rikus Hattingh put on a classical performance, finishing 2nd overall in Class E for the 2017 Northern Regions Season. Overall, David Huddy and Gerhard Schutte had five podium finishes and were second overall in the 2017 Class S.

Despite not participating in too much racing in 2017 because of his studies, Dewald Brummer made sure MAD Racing would be crowned Champions for the F400 8-hour endurance race. The FUCHS Lubricants-sponsored MAD Racing team duo of Dewald Brummer and Bevan Williams faced a challenging and difficult race. After a few laps in the main race, the team had a puncture which saw them fall to 28th position.

After a few pit stops, driver changes and refuelling, the team managed to get back to fifth position with an hour and a half of the race to go. The team took a decision to push hard which paid off and they managed to win the race with a record-breaking victory. They were the only team to achieve more than 500 laps.

Larry Wilford pulled off a spectacular win at the season finale race to secure second position overall in the V8 championship. The final race of the 2017 season found the V8 Supercars back at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Terry had still not recovered from a protracted illness and was forced to miss the final race.

Larry’s skilful driving and prowess gave him the competitive edge to outsmart the pack and take the lead. His Falcon was in 1st place, opened a 50 metre gap from the nearest opposition, and went on to win the race, and with that he was able to secure second position overall in the championship.
